Rotors

Function and Operation: Brake rotors work in conjunction with brake pads to slow down or stop a vehicle's motion. When the driver presses the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure is applied to the brake calipers, causing the brake pads to clamp onto the brake rotors. The resulting friction between the brake pads and rotors generates heat, which dissipates into the surrounding air. This process converts the vehicle's kinetic energy into heat energy, effectively slowing down the vehicle.

  1. Vented or Slotted Rotors: These rotors have grooves or slots on their surface, which help dissipate heat more effectively and reduce the risk of brake fade (a decrease in braking performance due to overheating). They are often used in high-performance vehicles and heavy-duty applications.

  2. Drilled Rotors: These rotors have holes drilled through them offering improved heat dissipation and reducing the overall weight of the rotor.
